Design and Operation of User-centric Mobility Systems
The goal of these projects is to optimize the design and operation of (multi-/intermodal) mobility systems, whereby different vehicles provide on-demand mobility jointly with public transit. In this context, the operation of the system will be optimized accounting for different cost functions, which need to be defined from a system-level perspective as well as from a human-centric perspective: Specifically, using active modes and public transit could be seen as beneficial for users. At the same time, different users’ profiles should be defined to capture different levels of urgency and route-related personal preferences.
Time-optimal Design and Control of Electric Race Cars
In the last decade, we have witnessed the advent of several electric car racing championships. In this context, the energy that can be carried on-board is very limited has to be deployed in the best possible way. This challenge calls for methods to maximize the performance of the vehicle both in terms of design and operation. Projects in this field will focus on co-design methods to jointly optimize design and operation strategies, and multi-level control methods to be implement the latter on the vehicle (including powertrain control and driving) and in the pit-wall (including pit stops, charging times, and stint length). They will be carried out in collaboration with student and professional racing teams.
